Field Trips

Join us for a field trip in the great outdoors!

NOLA is dedicated to enhancing outdoor educational opportunities both nationally and within our home state of Idaho. We provide place-based educational field trips across the Treasure Valley that align with the Idaho Content Standards for grades K-5.

  • Our permit covers any public park in the City of Boise. Our favorites include Veterans Memorial Park, Kathryn Albertsons Park, Kristin Armstrong Park, and Hyatt Hidden Lakes Reserve.

    We also have space along the Garden City and Eagle Greenbelt!

  • Field trips are hosted from September through May from 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM.

    Most sites can accommodate up to 60 students. Groups will be divided into smaller cohorts with one NOLA educator per 20 students (a class chaperone is required for every 10 students).

    NOLA will provide specialty field toileting facilities, all educational materials, and comfort supplies (hand warmers, extra hats/gloves/socks, and drinking water).

    Please note: NOLA is unable to provide bussing/transportation services at this time.

  • $180 for up to 20 students
    $250 for up to 40 students
    $325 for up to 60 students

    Adult chaperones are free.

  • Children should come dressed in weather-appropriate clothing and bring a filled reusable water bottle.

    Nametags are preferred but not required.

  • 9:30 AM - 9:45 AM
    Bus drops students off at Veterans Memorial State Park. NOLA staff will meet the group at the pavilion for introductions, rule review, and ice-breaker activity. Chaperones will help students use park restrooms during this time, if needed.

    10:00 AM - 10:30 AM
    Guided hike (<.25 miles) to nature classroom. Scavenger hunt activity and lesson introduction.

    10:30 AM - 11:30 AM
    Lesson activity

    11:30 AM - 12:00 PM
    Read-aloud during picnic lunch. 15-20 minutes of nature play.

    12:00 PM - 12:30 PM
    Lesson review and wrap up. Hike back to bus and depart.

Eco-Explorations (K-2)

During this adventure, children will embark on a journey through a natural area to discover the fascinating world of plants and animals.

Riparian Adventures (3-4)

Delve into the remarkable world of riparian habitats along the Boise River and uncover the fascinating adaptations that native flora and fauna have evolved to thrive in this distinct environment.

Bioblitz (5-6)

Explore the wonders of the natural world, discover the incredible variety of life along the Boise River, and foster a deeper appreciation for the environment. This educational and hands-on experience is designed to engage young minds in the magic of biodiversity and conservation.
